The Brick Theater, Inc. BROKE Starring You.
A UNIQUE, MONTHLY STORYTELLING & PERFORMANCE EVENT THIS MONTH’S STORY: GOING FOR BROKE -- TALES OF SURVIVING, HUSTLING, AND THRIVING! Have you ever taken a chance? Rolled the dice? Gone for broke? New Yorkers love a success story, especially the kind that starts with "When I was broke..." And success is relative: paying the rent, telling the boss off, singing your karaoke game song like a rock star. During dark times, even a little light can shine. Even if that light is a gasoline-fueled trash fire. Come share stories of personal victories, big and small, and help us put the Hobopocalypse in a collective headlock This month, professional gabber and “notorious roué” John DeVore spontaneously interviews an eclectic cast of unrehearsed, every day New Yorkers with a story to share, and a desire to connect with a group of people who’ve been there, are there, or will be very soon. Completely unique in concept and execution, Broke with John DeVore is a live, interactive theater performance that celebrates that most inexpensive of social activities: human interaction. It’s just a couple microphones, some cheap beer, an affable host… and you. This month’s special guest: comedian, writer and radio talk show host SARA BENINCASA!
Sara Benincasa is a comedian, writer and radio talk show host. She was a citizen journalist for the 2008 MTV Choose or Lose Street Team, part of MTV’s 2008 Emmy Award-winning Think campaign. Her political blog and video news reports can be found on MTV’s social justice and activism website, ThinkMTV. During the election, she created original web video content for the Huffington Post's humor site, 23/6. John DeVore is an internet, radio, and television personality. He currently writes the weekly Mind of Man column for The Frisky and the weekly Right Wing Pinko column for Playboy.com. He is the former co-host of DeVore and Diana and host of The DMZ with John DeVore for Sirius XM. He’s written for Maxim Magazine, The New York Sun, Comedy Central, Cracked Magazine, Esquire.com and was a co-creator of the infamous, Bush-era parody site Whitehouse.org. He’s been seen on CNN, FOX News, and G4TV. His last play, Attack of the Soccer Moms was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland this past summer.
