Picture a seven-foot-tall Victorian doll
whose body opens up to reveal an entire cast of characters living
inside her — singing cereal boxes, dancing pill bottles
and giant cigarette packs that blast off into outer space. This
doll believes in a world where using the right shampoo could
win you the love of your life...but is it really that simple?
What happens when you put the easy answers aside and stop choosing
to be safe?
SECRETS HISTORY REMEMBERS
is the latest from the innovative puppeteers who brought you
the world premiere of Vàclav Havel's Motormorphosis,
and the comic hit Evolution. Creator/performers Tanya Khordoc
and Barry Weil of Evolve Company create a live multimedia collage,
using toy theater, object manipulation and projections to take
us on a surreal, satiric journey across the decades.
EVOLVE COMPANY
(Production Company) has been playing with puppets very seriously
since 1996. Past productions include Evolution (at HERE Arts
Center, The Puppeteers of America National Festival and The
Looking Glass Theatre, among other venues) and NEUROfest's The
Boy Who Wanted to be a Robot. They have also contributed to
Untitled Theater Co. #61's 24/7 Festival and collaborated on
Galileo's Telescope, a puppet epic conceived and directed by
Eric Jacobson of Jim Henson's Muppets. Last year, they were
given the honor of creating the world premiere production of
Motormorphosis, a play by former Czech President Vaclav Havel,
as part of UTC #61's Havel Festival in NYC. They are devoted
to the promotion of puppetry as a viable art form for adults
as well as children.
Press Quotes from previous shows
[About EVOLUTION]
"Really intelligent design...it may not be Darwin, but
it sure is fun." -- New York Times
"Motormorphosis, directed, designed, and performed by Tanya
Khordoc and Barry Weil, is a funny puppet piece that brings
to mind Ionesco's Rhinoceros...the two puppeteers interpreting
all the roles provide the show with style, unity, and graceful
speed." -- nytheatre.com
