Last chance to view and purchase art from this show\, have some drinks\, snacks and meet the artist! \n*** \n混沌: Chaos and Delight explores\, in candy colored and fuzzy tufted works\, the joy in relinquishing boundaries and re-mixing opposing forces: heaven and earth\, ancient and modern\, American and Chinese\, craft and fine art. \nIn Chinese mythology\, at the beginning of time there was only 混沌 (hùn dùn)\, a roiling primordial chaos encapsulated in an egg. When the egg was split\, great pains were taken to keep light and heavy\, sky and earth separated. As a mixed race Taiwanese/Chinese and white American\, my two halves are often likewise separated; sometimes by external forces and sometimes by my own anxieties from living in a deeply racialized country. As a mixed race\, second generation Taiwanese/Chinese American\, her work is about finding happiness in the confusion and ambiguity of diaspora. Her reinterpretations of traditional Chinese craftsmanship seek to honor heritage through an unapologetically American lens. Shawna also owns a jewelry and home decor brand\, Cookie Smut\, with designs that are colorful\, kitschy\, and yes sometimes smutty \n*** \n \nThe Brick is a 501(c)(3) non-profit.
