SUMMARY:Fringe and Fur presents The Possessed Girls of St. Mary’s: A Reading\, Community Party and Conversation
DESCRIPTION:The Possessed Girls of St. Mary’s \nMarch 9th at 7pm\n@Brick Aux – 628 Metropolitan Avenue\nSuggested Donation \n***\nJoin Fringe and Fur for a reading of Jeana Scotti’s The Possessed Girls of St. Mary’s directed by Tara Elliot at Brick Aux on March 9th at 7PM ET followed by a community party and conversation with a chapter representative of Period to launch the future development of this play. \nWe ask all who attend to bring period supplies (pads\, tampons\, hygiene wipes\, travel sized feminine washes\, etc.). All supplies will be donated to Expecting Relief. \nRSVP by emailing Genee Coreno here. \nSuggested Donation $25.00 \n***\n \nAbout the Producer’s: \n(Featured above left to right) \nThis event is co-hosted & produced by Kristine Amarante\, Genee Coreno\, Tara Elliott\, Maia Karo\, Zoë Kim\, Jeana Scotti. \nAbout the Play:\nIn 1969\, at St. Mary’s School for Girls\, thirteen-year-old Alex is about to make her Confirmation\, but after rumors spread that she gave the parish’s monsignor a heart attack during her confession\, she begins to bleed. Which she believes can only be one thing\, a sign that she’s possessed. A possession she believes she brought onto herself because she can’t stop masturbating to the idea of girls in her class telling her what to do and to Dick Van Dyke in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. It starts to spread to the other girls in the grade and threatens to take over the school\, the country\, and their bodies. A look at the way in which shame can spread and manifest when a select few in power are the ones controlling the narrative. \nAbout Fringe and Fur:\nFringe and Fur creates performances that examine the way identity and fantasy are transformed by gender\, violence\, and environment. Our aim is to elevate fringe performance\, experimental writing\, and theatrical experiences by fostering trust-based relationships with artists at key moments of project development. \n
