DESCRIPTION:***LIVE EVENT SOLD OUT***\n***STAY TUNED FOR THE DIGITAL VERSION*** \nJoin FYC host\, Toney Brown as he takes you on an exploration of the avant-garde films of Maya Deren–filmmaker\, choreographer\, musician\, film theorist. \nTragically passing away at the age of 44\, Maya Deren devoted much of her short life to rejecting commercial moviemaking and harnessing the medium of cinema to create experiential art. \nToney will be joined by film critic Marcus Pinn (@Pinnland_Empire\, Podcast Host: Zebras in America) and theater maker Genee Coreno (Fringe and Fur) to talk about Maya’s approach to filmmaking and enduring legacy. Followed by a premiere of a film by theater maker Lillian Wooten White (& Light & Light & Light) inspired by the works of Deren.\n\nAbout FYC:\nFor Your Consideration (FYC)  is a film program curated by Toney Brown that sets out to uncover gems\, offer reexaminations\, and analyze cultural intersections of cinema. Through collaboration with invited guests (filmmakers\, critics\, artists\, and friends)  FYC aims to create more than a communal viewing experience by offering scholarly insight to elevate the films and filmmakers in exciting and thoughtful ways.
