SUMMARY:Meat Market: Works by Benji Weinryb Grohsgal
DESCRIPTION:Queer Art Fest presents\nMeat Market: Works by Benji Weinryb Grohsgal\ncurated by Adam Chuck\nSaturday\, October 28\nat Brick Aux – 628 Metropolitan Ave\n3pm-8pm\nFree \nQueer Art Fest is proud to present Meat Market: Works by Benji Weinryb Grohsgal\, curated by Adam Chuck. \nRSVP: meatmarket.eventbrite.com \nCurators Statement: \n“Benji’s work\, old and new\, brings play to the canvas in many ways. His work is influenced by his life—motifs of Provincetown and other nautical references\, nature\, and playful nude male figures. His brightly colored organic shapes and geometric lines make for playful and humorous compositions. \nI met Benji in Provincetown in June 2022\, when we were both exhibiting at Art Gaysel. He was showing paper cut outs — fun and playful with bright colors\, very much reflecting his nature. We became fast friends. Getting down Commercial Street with Benji took time\, because of what a deeply loved member of the community he was — and is; everyone would stop to say hi and chat. When transplanting to New York City this past Spring\, Benji landed in a web of new friends already. \nOver the summer\, Benji was diagnosed with brain cancer\, which has impacted his life dramatically. One of the most significant challenges Benji has faced has been learning to navigate using his non-dominant hand. To improve these skills\, he took to creating digital art with his iPad. What initially started as art therapy has grown into a vibrant new body of work. Similar to his physical paintings and works on paper\, this new digital series features playful characters\, illustrations\, and colors. \nWe are happy to showcase both veins of Benji’s oeuvre. Meat Market displays original paper works and drawings as well as newly printed limited digital pieces. All work is available for sale\, with 100% of all proceeds going directly to Benji and his family. To know Benji is to love him\, and we invite you to get to know and love him through his art\, and to take something with you to brighten your home.” – Adam Chuck \n*** \n \nThe Brick is a 501(c)(3) non-profit.
