SUMMARY:?!: New Works 2023 - Night 23
DESCRIPTION:The Brick presents\n?!: New Works 2023 – Night 23\nfeaturing Colin Heininger\, an_outskirt\, Lids/Ellen/+Sam\, Alexis Cofield and Danielle Covington\nAugust 16\, 2023\n8pm \nThe spiritual successor to The Exponential Festival\, ?!:New Works features a veritable slew of experiment(al)(ing) artists from a variety of disciplines presenting brand new work. Working it out. With each other. With you. \n \nYour thoughts in a state of impatience [personified]\nChoreographed by Colin Heininger \nThis dance work provides a highly accurate and detailed view on the discordant activities of your thoughts in the span of time in which you\, having previously dialed a number\, are waiting to talk to a representative. \nChoreography by Colin Heininger \nPerformed by\nColin Heininger\nAmanda Molina\nAdianna Valentine\nJoslin Vezeau \nMusic by Johann Sebastian Bach \nFind them: @colin_it_a_day colinheininger.com \n \ndabrudegang\nby an_outskirt \nfor ?!:NewWorks we’d like to lean into the ? and share the process we use to invite a more receptive state: droning. as a sound\, drones provide us the opportunity to suspend the impulse to move forward\, for the vocal apparatus to relax and embrace what comes more freely; for the retreat to that amniotic place where the ear cuts the edge of perception. \nan_outskirt is joy and chai tamayo \nFind them: an-outskirt.com \n  \n \ni’m here to speak to you using the sound of my voice\nby Lids Bierenday\, Ellen Zahniser\, and Sam M-H \nThere are two performers with microphones sitting at small tables facing each other; both operate disembodied voices that engage in a dramatic dialogue with one another. This performance first represents a real-life dialogue between its performers (Ellen and Lids) about the nature of the voice / the nature of the machine / the nature of the body (becoming autonomous) and then attempts to actually enact the concepts proposed via that dialogue!! We investigate the potential for NOISE (which we understand as the undomesticated form of sound) to both disrupt and aid in our theatrical endeavor; its uncontrollable chaos ruins any coherent dramatic narrative while simultaneously revealing multiple syncopated / delayed temporalities in one theatrical moment. \nWritten by Ellen Zahniser and Lids Bierenday\nPerformed by Ellen Zahniser and Lids Bierenday\nSound by Lids Bierenday\nProjections by Sam M-H\nPhoto by Noraa Kaplan\, Design by Lids Bierenday \ncw: self-mutilation\, some gory descriptions\, and possible psychosis trigger \nFind them: ellenzahniser.tumblr.com\, @shmelzs\, @lidsbday \n \nyou seem better since our last talk\nby Alexis Cofield \nNova\, a young Black theatre maker\, has recently made the switch from acting to writing. While writing a play about her ex boyfriend Marc — she keeps running into him. As Nova writes she spirals further into depression and struggles to differentiate the real Marc from the Marc she’s created. \nyou seem better since our last talk is a new full length play. \nAt ?!:New Works\, you’ll see Scene Five – Sunday in the Park with Marc.\n\nCREATIVE TEAM:\n\nDirector – Danielle Covington (they/them)\nWriter-  Alexis Cofield (she/her)\nSound Designer and Stage Manager— E.B. Hinnant (he/him)\nProjection and Animation Designer – Lucas Castro Cruz (he/him)\nDramaturg – Nile Assata Harris (she/her)\n\n\nCAST:\nNOVA – Alexis Cofield (she/her)\nMARC – Kevin Tyler Rodriguez (he/him)\n\n\ncw: discussion of self harm\, adult language \nFind them: @msalexiscofield @danicovi @youseembetter \nLineups are subject to change. \nart by Mark Toneff \n*** \n \nThe Brick is a 501(c)(3) non-profit.
