SUMMARY:?!: New Works 2024 – Night 14
DESCRIPTION:The Brick presents\n?!: New Works 2024 – Night 14\nfeaturing Rawya El Chab\, Ann Marie Dorr\, Mariam Dingilian\, Brendan Drake\nApril 24\, 2024\n8pm \nThe spiritual successor to The Exponential Festival\, ?!:New Works features a veritable slew of experiment(al)(ing) artists from a variety of disciplines presenting brand new work. Working it out. With each other. With you. \n \nThe Union by Rawya El Chab \nApril 24 & 25 \nThe Union is an interactive performance inspired from “A Simple Sabotage Field Manual.” The document\, recently declassified by the CIA\, was used during the second world war to provide US sympathizers\, in the heart of Nazi Germany\, with the tools to sabotage the Nazi war machine without getting caught. By going over these few pages\, it is hard not to come to the realization that we have witnessed these methods in action in our own grassroots organizations.   \nThe Union simulates a general assembly\, and invites the audience/workers to take a collective decision and work together against the management. But “Union” is easier said than done! \nMixing Buffooneries\, whimsical characters\, and songs in a game show atmosphere\, The Union wants us to catch the Saboteur within.  \nFeaturing: Sophia Moussa & Elsa Saadeh \nFind them: @rawya-elchab \n \nsquirrel friend dreams and other ideas from times of grief (an excerpt) by Ann Marie Dorr  – April 24 & 26 \nsquirrel friend dreams and other ideas in times of grief is a play about the sad times\, bad times\, and the sexiest of times or one person’s grief journey refracted through time and others. there will be line dancing. \nWritten by Ann Marie Dorr \nDirected by Kedian Keohan \nCast: Kurt Chiang\, Amando Houser\, K Hurley\, Minna Lee\, Paul Ketchum  \nFind them: @annmariedorr @justkedian \n \nAquatic Meadow by Mariam Dingilian \nApril 19 & 24 \nA new solo-dance-comedy-drama-improvisation gone awry. As the piece unfolds\, it drifts and wanders through new landscapes…tension ensues…leading to the unknown! \nWritten\, Choreographed\, and Performed by Mariam Dingilian \nPoster Design by Neena Holzman @pigeons.grotto \nCreated with support from Monira Foundation. Special thanks to The Brick\, Neena Holzman\, and Ella Wasserman-Smith \nFind them: mariamdingilian.com \n \nGhost Porn Spin-off No. 1 by Brendan Drake  \nApril 20 & 24 \nInspired by Horror Cinema and Dark Room Culture\, this work uses movement\, dream logic\, and sound manipulation to reveal correlations between pop culture and queer temporality\, and how those impact present notions of sexual agency\, autonomy and platonic intimacy among friends as mutual care. \nChoreographer: Brendan Drake \nPerformers: Brendan Drake (and special guest tbd) \nMusic: Krzysztof Penderecki\, Morton Feldman\, Brendan Drake \n**Created with Support from UCLA Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance. \nImage Credit: Photographer: Letxia Cordova Pictured: Brendan Drake and Wesleigh Gates \ncw: nudity\, sexual scenarios\, loud noises and long periods of blackout. \nFind them: Brendandrakechoreography.com; @brendandrakechoreography \n*** \n \nThe Brick is a 501(c)(3) non-profit.
