SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Place is the Place
DESCRIPTION:Brick Aux Presents\nPlace is the Place\nby Gregory Thrasher\nat Brick Aux Gallery – 628 Metropolitan Ave\nOpening reception\, sponsored by Brooklyn Brewery\nNovember 12\, 2022. 4pm – 8pm\nFREE admission \nBrick Aux proudly presents Place is the Place\, a new solo gallery exhibition by visual artist Gregory Thrasher. \nI want to agitate the viewer. In negotiating different tensions – those that exist between humans and our environment\, the sacred and profane – I came to Place is the Place. Don’t ask where the place is; feeling lost and disoriented is integral. The components are thoroughly mapped but free from parameters and open to improvisation. Nothing is static; everything is in motion. The voice is sardonic without being cynical. By providing an audit of the past\, present\, and future\, this body of work encourages alternative avenues for societal conduct while simultaneously illustrating a cautionary tale for future generations. \nSpecial guests Soft City Printing will have copies of Gregory Thrasher’s Newports of Brooklyn available. \nAfter party to follow at Milo’s Yard featuring an all vinyl DJ set from Edan\, special drinks\, pinball\, and a killer yard. \nExhibition runs 11/12/2022 – 1/2/2023\, gallery hours by appointment contact ryan@bricktheater.com \n \nGregory Thrasher (b. 1984) is a visual artist\, musician\, and production designer born in El Paso\, Texas\, and living in New York City. Following in the traditions of Art Brut\, his work spans several mediums including painting\, sculpture\, and performance. He is a founder of the psychedelic-punk band Chat Logs\, and visual art duo Macrodose. He also hosts a monthly radio program on Soho Radio\, playing selections from his extensive Vinyl collection.
