With a degree in theatre and an Australian Poetry Slam Championship under their belt\, they merge elements of dance and physical theater with written poetry to create multidisciplinary short works they have toured through the US\, Australia\, and Southeast Asia\, from the mamaks of Kuala Lumpur to the Sydney Opera House. Their work has been published in BOOTH\, Pressure Gauge Press\, and elsewhere\, and their first collection\, Black and Ropy\, was published by Pitt Street Poetry. They are currently craving falafel in Berlin.\n\n***\n\nSANAZ GHAJAR presents Happy Sugar\n\n\n\n\nHappy Sugar is the title of a piece of writing from a larger work entitled “Iranian Girlfriend\,” currently being developed at New Georges. Is it an autofiction novel? Is it a performance lecture? Maybe it’s a TV show! Who knows\, but once Sanaz figures it out (just give her a couple more months of Netflix ‘research’ and a couple more handles of gin)\, she promises she’ll make it\, full stop. For now she’s going to *chill* and simply read you this snippet\, because she wrote it\, because that’s what she’s been focused on\, because that’s what you’re gonna get.\n\nSanaz Ghajar is an Iranian-American writer\, director\, curator\, and DJ whose work has been described as “ambitiously subversive” and “unapologetically experimental” (Time Out NY). She starts each project from an emotional rather than dramaturgical point of intrigue.The shape of her work changes radically project by project\, with a consistent focus on alternative structures guided by image and sound. Form is open\, so the container of the final expression may be a pop-political collage\, dance piece with found text\, musical adaptation of a classic\, rock-opera concert\, animated music video\, filmed mockumentary frame-story\, and more. What unites the work is a continued balance between the personal and political\, as well as a desire to take things and flip them on their heads. Self-identified creative survivalist Jackie Rivera took the life-art oeuvre to the max 2 years ago when they purchased a rusty old dodge with a dolphin on it as their home on the streets of Brooklyn and beyond. His solo performance work explores the cracks between sense/nonsense and groove/noise. Stay garish! \n*** \nSARAH KRASNOW \nFOLLOW SARAH @sarahkrasnow  \nWEBSITE:  sarah-krasnow.com/ \nOn Guard was completed at the Catwalk Arts Residency in Catskill\, NY\, in October 2020.  It is an ongoing theater/movement project that places museum guards front and center of an artistic work\, rather than on the periphery. \nThe video features collected interviews (excerpts)\, poses of museum attendees\, and re-creations of the audio landscapes of museums\, including the repetition of audio material that guards hear multiple times a day.  The piece is part love letter to the studio space in which it was recorded: a tower with a panoramic view.\n\n\nMusician Wendy Richman improvised on viola to the video. \n***\n\nGIO NAARENDOORP \n\nGiovanni Miguel Naarendorp is a writer\, comedian\, and actor living in Brooklyn. Previous credits include “Memory Retrograde” at Ars Nova\, “Barely Adults” (web series)\, “The Guy” (short film)\, “Christmastown” at The Denizen Theater\, “The Ultimate” ( short film)\, and “Phases of the Moon” (short film).
