SUMMARY:Stories Will Not Mend This Broken World
DESCRIPTION:The Brick presents\nStories Will Not Mend This Broken World\nWritten by William Johnson\, Directed by Handan Ozbilgin\nNovember 7-9\, 2024\nRunning time: 75 minutes\nat Brick Aux Studio – 628 Metropolitan Ave \nWhat is the value of art in a world that’s collapsing? In this play\, a group of Istanbul theater artists struggle to regain their footing in the aftermath of the 2023 earthquake that devastated Turkey and Syria. Alternating between gallows humor and grief\, Stories Will Not Mend This Broken World explores the effect that violence on a mass scale has on those who witness it from a distance and the inextinguishable drive to create new worlds through art\, even when that work feels futile. \nCREATIVE TEAM\nWritten by Will Johnson\nDirected by Handan Ozbilgin\nStage Manager: Leela Munsiff\nCast: Lal Ensari\, Orcun Koray Kaygusuz\, Defne Ozkan\, Francisco Arcila\, Roberto Tolentino \n\nThis project is made possible in part with funds from Creative Engagement and UMEZ Arts Engagement\, a regrant program(s) supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with City Council and administered by LMCC.\nThis play partially developed at Mercury Store and Positive Exposure Gallery\n\n \n\nImage: Deep Within.
