SUMMARY:The Exponential Festival and The Brick present: "Sapphire"
DESCRIPTION:The Exponential Festival and The Brick present\nSapphire\nby Ella Lee Davidson\nat The Brick Theater — 579 Metropolitan Ave\nJanuary 15-18\, 2025\nRunning Time: 90 Minutes \nSelf-identified real-ass bitch and Angry Black Woman\, Peola is unlucky in love and constantly asking herself the age-old question: “When is it my turn to be happy?” After a near-death experience\, she decides to make a change in her life and undergoes an experimental surgical procedure to get a BBI (Be Better Implant). Peola finally has a chance at happiness and embracing her divine feminine\, as well as finding a man\, but the implant and its creator are not without complications and not as perfect as they seem. Sapphire is a surreal afro-futurist satire about the stereotypes we give ourselves and others\, the idea of perfection and the ideal woman\, and the concept of change. \nWritten by Ella Lee Davidson\nDirected by Jordan Powell\nProduced by Paul William Levine\nStage managed by Qu’Raun Scott-McKoy\nSet and projections by Leon Caleb Christian and Kai Hartman\nCostume design by Jason Goodwin\nSound and original music by Camelia Muniz Torres\nLighting by Iman Louis-Jeune\nStarring Scenarious Thurmond\, Anike Sonuga\, Doyin Ajijola\, Jordan Jackson\, and Enette Fremont\nSocial media content created by Chloe “Lulu” Mutebi\nFind them: @sapphiretheplay @smelladavidson \nSapphire was originally developed with Fresh Ground Pepper. \nContent warnings: This show contains depictions of physical and domestic violence. \n \nTHE EXPONENTIAL FESTIVAL\nJANUARY’S BROOKLYN-BASED THEATRE FESTIVAL\n~ A pleasure\, a mess\, a thrill\, and a dream. ~ \nExponential is a month-long January festival dedicated to New York City-based emerging artists working in experimental performance. The participants in this multi-artist\, multi-venue festival are committed to ecstatic creativity in the face of commercialism. Exponential is driven by inclusiveness and a diversity of artists\, forms\, and ideas coupled with utopian resource-sharing\, mentoring and the championing of risky\, rigorous work in eclectic fields. theexponentialfestival.org \n  \n \nThe Brick is a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Our front door is ADA compliant. There is a small ramp with an ADA compliant grade that leads up to the box office window and further on to the house. We are happy to reserve accessible seats for folks who need them. If you’d like to do so\, or if you would like to ask further questions in advance of being in the space\, or if you would like to enter in advance of our house opening (due to our seating not being assigned)\, please email: cameron@bricktheater.com.\n\nQuestions about Content? Posted just to the right of the box office at the Brick box\, we have a detailed content warning sheet for each production.
