Was forgetting a calculated effort? How can you hold onto what you cannot recall? Heath’s solo performance seams pieces of movement, text, and video; exposing her deepest fantasies of an unknown mother. Suspended bojagi pieces create a fantasied womb space where fragments of partial truths and unverified facts circulate, slowly imprinting a possibility of embodied “folklore” memory.

Created and Performed by Annie Heath
In collaboration with
Shannon Brooks (Filmmaker)
Leonie Castelino (Visual Designer)
and Anna Wotring (Producer)

Departure Study of Mother/land Fabric is sponsored, in part, by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, administered by Brooklyn Arts Council. 2020-2022 work of Annie Heath is made possible with the generous assistance of New York Live Arts; Asian American Arts Alliance; University of Massachusetts Amherst; and LEIMAY Foundation.

Lauded as “a cutting edge…boundary-pushing festival” by CBS New York, “[The Exponential Festival] is where you go to see things in [their] purest and most inventive state.” (WNYC) “[Exponential] has curated a slate of emerging experimental performers who blur and complicate the boundaries of theater, comedy, visual art, and dance.” (Brooklyn Rail) Since 2016, Exponential has presented the work of 1,200 NYC-based artists to 17,300 audience members in 23 (primarily Brooklyn) venues. Our artists present multi-week runs, one-offs, and variety shows throughout the month of January in theaters, back rooms, basements, and box-stores—making “The Exponential [Festival] as big as Brooklyn itself.” (American Theatre Magazine)

A Note About The Brick’s COVID’s Protocols: As of August 16th, New York City requires proof of vaccination in order to attend indoor performances. Audience can provide proof of vaccination with a government issued I.D. along with a physical copy or picture of your COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card, the NYC COVID Safe Pass or the New York State Excelsior Pass.
