SUMMARY:The Exponential Festival Presents: Flow My Tears (Everybody Dance)
DESCRIPTION:The Brick and The Exponential Festival Presents\nFlow My Tears (Everybody Dance)\nby John-Philip Faienza\, Braulio Cruz\, & Teri Madonna\n \nJuly 7-15 \nA performance featuring live electronic music\, singing\, and surprise guests. Now we’re together in the room\, and what happens? We look forward to hosting you in our community space.\nThis project comes from deep wondering about loss that occurred the past few years in which only a cursory\, observed\, virtual processing served as a simulacrum of mourning. \nPhillip K. Dick wrote the novel Flow My Tears\, The Policeman Said\, in which a famous pop singer in a dystopian future wakes up and discovers he has never existed. He took the phrase from a 16th century song about fully-inhabited despair. Madonna released the album Everybody Dance in October 1982. \nThis is a live reimagining of a digital work also created for The Exponential Festival. See the digital version here. \nCreated and Performed by \nBraulio Cruz \nJohn-Philip Faienza \nand Teri Madonna \nFeaturing Surprise Musical Guests \nWritten by Braulio Cruz and John-Philip Faienza \nAssociate Director Teri Madonna \nDirected by John-Philip Faienza \nSpecial Guests: \nAlex Romania / B!G – July 7th and July 9th \nFripp – July 10th \nthe amazing Lorenzo Landini – July 13th \nBrandon Agustus – July 14th and 15th \n \nThe Exponential Festival: \n~ A pleasure\, a mess\, a thrill\, and a dream. ~ \nExponential is a 501c3 January performance festival for NYC-based emerging artists working in experimental performance. The participants in this multi-artist\, multi-venue festival are committed to ecstatic creativity in the face of commercialism. Exponential is driven by inclusiveness and a diversity of artists\, forms\, and ideas coupled with utopian resource-sharing\, mentoring and the championing of risky\, rigorous work in eclectic fields. \ntheexponentialfestival.org \nIn consideration for the health and safety or our staff members\, artists\, and audiences\, The Brick remains committed to maintaining vaccination requirements and mask mandates for our in-person presentations for the foreseeable future. We ask that all audience members remain masked. All staff and performers will be vaccinated; performers may not be masked. Audience can provide proof of vaccination with a government issued I.D. along with a physical copy or picture of your COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card\, the NYC COVID Safe App or the New York State Excelsior Pass. Please be patient with staff.
