SUMMARY:The Exponential Festival Presents: Gusher
DESCRIPTION:The Brick and The Exponential Festival present\nGusher\nby Blaze Ferrer\ntheexponentialfestival.org \nMarch 2\, 3\, 4 8pm \nGusher is a dance performance drawn from Panos Cosmatos’ Beyond The Black Rainbow\, varsity wrestling\, Magical girls\, and 1960s New Age cultism to create an environment where dystopian identities are shed for post-queer textures and means of embodiment. \nCreated and Performed by Blaze Ferrer \nPerformed and Generated with Justin Faircloth \nSound Design and Composition by Jeff Aaron Bryant \nLighting Design by Ebony Burton \nCostume Design by Emily White \nSpecial Help from Marisa Brau \nA duet exploring post-Judson movement and queer performance tropes\, two dancers push through cumulative scores into a fractured expressionist nightmare that objectifies gay American consumerism. Inspired by Anh Vo’s “No More Daddy”\, Jose Esteban Muñoz’s Disidentifications\, Kevin Killian’s Action Kylie\, and Ben Miller’s “The Life and Death of Modern Homosexuality”\, the performers inhabit and dissolve queer iconography in order to “burn the boarding school down\, and in the ashes\, with history as our guide\, build something for everyone” (Miller). \nThis project was supported\, in part\, by Brooklyn Arts Council’s Brooklyn Arts Fund\, supported by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department Of Cultural Affairs (DCLA); the New York City Council\, and the Office of the Brooklyn Borough President. This project was supported\, in part\, by a Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant. \nPhoto by Jessie Young \nIn consideration for the health and safety or our staff members\, artists\, and audiences\, The Brick remains committed to maintaining vaccination requirements and mask mandates for our in-person presentations for the foreseeable future. We ask that all audience members remain masked. All staff and performers will be vaccinated; performers may not be masked. Audience can provide proof of vaccination with a government issued I.D. along with a physical copy or picture of your COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card\, the NYC COVID Safe App or the New York State Excelsior Pass. Please be patient with staff.
