SUMMARY:Tiananmen Massacre 34th Anniversary Commemorative Concert
DESCRIPTION:Brick Aux presents\nTiananmen Massacre 34th Anniversary Commemorative Concert \nby Rose Tang\nJune 4\, 2023\nat Brick Aux – 628 Metropolitan Ave\n7pm\nSuggested Donation of $20 \nAn annual concert to commemorate the 34th anniversary of Tiananmen Massacre. In 1989 in China\, the Chinese government sent army troops with tanks to Beijing and other cities\, and killed thousands of unarmed students and civilians in a mass crackdown on the pro-democracy Tiananmen Movement. To this day\, the Chinese Communist Party bans any reports on the event and keeps persecuting protesters and massacre victims’ families. All the funds raised at the concert will be sent to massacre victims’ families in China. \nThe multi-media multi-disciplinary event\, hosted by massacre survivor Rose Tang\, will showcase poetry\, story telling\, dance\, visual art\, films\, free jazz and improvised experimental music by some of the most daring and creative artists from China\, Hong Kong\, Taiwan\, Europe and the Americas. The event will also pay tribute to the late jaimie branch\, Ding Jianqiang\, Larry Roland\, who participated in previous Tiananmen concerts. \nFEATURING \nTeng Biao — improv calligraphy\nChris Branch (drums)\, Steve Holtje (keyboard)\, Scott Pfaffman (violin).\nJochem van Dijk (bass)\, Chris Rael (guitar/voice)\nLehuanani DeFranco (dance)\, Annie Lemieux (trumpet)\, Nathan Repasz (drums)\, Evan Strauss (bass)\, Rose Tang (guitar/voice)\nAnnie Lanzillotto (storytelling)\nBen Tripp (synth/electronics) \nVISUAL ARTISTS \nStudio Bonita (film)\nLaura Duval (interactive drawing)\nPan Hsuan Yu (film)\nThirdblade (installation/film/VJ)\nMary Ting (installation image) \nEvery year around June 4 since 1989\, Beijing bans pictures of candles\, and even digits 8964 which is the Chinese description of June 4\, 1989\, the massacre date. For the past few years\, massacre survivor and former protest leader Rose Tang has been organizing and hosting an annual concert to commemorate the massacre\, raising funds for massacre victims’ families\, and raising the awareness of the unprecedented show of state violence while Beijing has been trying to erase it from history. \ncw: loud sounds\, surprising or abrupt sound \nFind them: \n\n\n\nInstagram & Twitter @rosetangy\, youtube\n\n\n\n*** \n \nThe Brick is a 501(c)(3) non-profit.
