SUMMARY:ARL: Volume V
DESCRIPTION:Cool theater people reading cool theater things\nApril 27th –  12-3pm\n@ Brick Aux – 628 Metropolitan Avenue\nFREE \n***\nThis session will be White Rabbit Red Rabbit by Nassim Soleimanpour. \nPlease fill out this google form if you are interested in attending!\n*** \n\n\nARL is a new program at the Brick Aux dedicated to providing a space for emerging artists to read plays\, musicals\, essays and other ‘cool theater things’ with other emerging artists. The primary goal of ARL is for members to be able to build a reservoir of like-minded theater makers that they can turn to and rely on for their theatrical endeavors. The group will meet several times a month and read aloud different works and then discuss\, workshop\, act\, and/or direct various scenes from the text. This will give the directors a chance to flex their directing muscles\, the actors a space to act\, designers a chance to discover and everyone a chance to make new connections and have a good time. ARL is catered towards new and emerging artists in theater. In order to curate an intimate space\, each session will be limited to between 10 and 20 and will meet for between 2 and 3 hours depending on the length of the piece being read. \nCreating theater is intrinsically tied to creating a community of artists. One of the hardest aspects of finding and making work in NYC is finding amazing people that you want to work with in the first place. Let the Aux Reading League be that place! \n\nPlease feel free to reach out to Harrison\, the program’s curator at harrison.brickaux@gmail.com with any questions.

SUMMARY:Help Me Draw Your Feelings
DESCRIPTION:Brick Aux presents\nHelp Me Draw Your Feelings\nby William Burke\nApril 27-May 6\nEXTENDED! Performances added May 11\, 12\, and 13 at 730pm!\nat Brick Aux – 628 Metropolitan Ave\n$20 \nHelp Me Draw Your Feelings! is a performance/art project/self-improvement hour that performs as a Joyously Skeptical ritual that melds personal progress and blocked/unblocked feelings with concreting and fleeting fantastical dreams. \nBryn Herdrich. Co-director\nCarolyn Mraz. design.\nMegan Lang. design.\nLester St. Louis. Composing.\nKate Benson. Performer\n \nSome of us will draw together and some of us will listen and we’ll all learn something. After a 26 year hiatus\, William started to play the cello again. Then he taught himself to draw. Both are in the show. Help Me Draw Your Feelings is a celebratory\, transcendent gathering that combats the deeply intimidating act of learning new things and relearning old things by looking at the greasy memory of past acts while advocating for the brutal and jubilant idea of the future. Drawing on vintage overhead projectors from 1972 is optional but encouraged. \nDeveloped @ Mercury Store February 2023 \nFind them:  @williamlostit\,  williamburke.net \n*** \n \nThe Brick is a 501(c)(3) non-profit. SUMMARY:Gestating Baby Volume 4: Alex Franz Zehetbauer and The Million Underscores
DESCRIPTION:The Brick presents\nGestating Baby Volume 4: Alex Franz Zehetbauer and The Million Underscores\nApril 27-29\, 2023 at 8pm\n$20-35 sliding scale \nFeaturing Two New Works \nAn Evening with (work-in-progress) by Alex Franz Zehetbauer and SLOWDANCE by The Million Underscores \n\nAn Evening with (work-in-progress) by Alex Franz Zehetbauer \nIn “An Evening with”\, singer and sonic choreographer Alex Franz Zehetbauer inhabits the intimate concert classic: a vocalist and a piano. The audience is invited for an evening that playfully uses the tradition of the song as a means of punctuating the gathering of people. Melodies and lyrics mold an ever-shifting mood and atmosphere in the room. The ritual of the song is celebrated as a force for coming together\, to resonate\, to mourn\, as a call to protest\, to tell stories\, and to manifest alternative futures. \nSongs and Performance: Alex Franz Zehetbauer\nWriter/Dramaturgical Advice: Jen Rosenblit\nOutside Ear: Christian Schröder\nProduction Management: Eva Holzinger \nAt the moment\, Alex Franz Zehetbauer is working on the project “”An Evening with””\, which researches the tradition of the song as a means of punctuating the gathering of people – the song as a carrier bag – the ritual of the song as a force for coming together\, to mourn\, to resonate\, as a call to protest\, to tell stories\, and to manifest alternative futures. \nAlex is curious to investigate the cultural impact of songs themselves: from ancient creation myths where it’s said that a song brought the universe into existence to revolutions incited by the people going out into the streets to sing banned songs to the rapid production of pop “hits” and their homogenous forms. He will also explore the context of the intimate concert format: An Evening with _______. His intent is to strange and queer this format and to play with one of its classic set ups of a singer and a piano. \nFind them: www.alexfranzzehetbauer.com / @afranzz @mollusca_productions_100 @freischwimmen.netz @ig_freietheaterarbeit @brut_wien \n\nSLOWDANCE by The Million Underscores \nSLOWDANCE and it is a duet between Timothy Scott and Nicolás Noreña \n*** \nThis residency is supported by ACT OUT\, a project of IG Freie Theaterarbeit\, funded by BMEIA. \n“An Evening with”” is supported by FREISCHWIMMEN\, the production platform for performance and theater\, supported by brut Wien\, FFT Düsseldorf\, Gessnerallee Zürich\, HochX Theater and Live Art München\, LOFFT – DAS THEATER Leipzig\, Schwankhalle Bremen\, SOPHIENSÆLE Berlin and Theater Rampe Stuttgart\, officially operated by SOPHIENSÆLE GmbH\, made possible within the framework of the program “”Promoting Connections”” of the Federal Association of Independent Performing Arts and supported by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.” \n \n  \n\n\n \nGestating Baby is a semi-regular series of split bill performances curated by Theresa Buchheister and Ryan William Downey that presents new and unpredictable works across the spectrum of theatrical performing arts. It began in 2013 at The Silent Barn and is now revived at The Brick Theater in Brooklyn\, NY. \n*** \n \nThe Brick is a 501(c)(3) non-profit. We rely on the generosity of our patrons.
