MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE PRESENTERS:
Gay Semiotics: A Performative Study of Visual Coding Among One Homosexual Man
Influenced by Hal Fischers seminal 1977 work “Gay Semiotics…”, Oscar’s Gay Semiotics flips the power of marking gay coded language from the artist to the audience, exposing the state of gay visual aesthetics from a societal view.
Gabi Shiner (she/her) is a writer, comedian, and sometimes musician based in Brooklyn. Her work has appeared in Reductress and Hypocrite Reader as well as onstage at the Brooklyn Comedy Collective. She performs standup and songs around town and has a BA in English and Creative Writing from Oberlin College. You can follow her on twitter @gabishiner or on instagram @screaming_birth.
co-developed with Theresa Buchheister
Kevin Chen, a Brooklyn-based poet and writer, has been in denial about being a spoken word performer for 15 years and is finally not ashamed. He is best known for the IndieCade-nominated immigrant visual novel Four Horsemen, but he has also been screaming at confused audiences at SalON! for a very long time. Onstage, as an expression of his tumultuous lifelong relationship with both theater and nerd culture, he aspires to be the most difficult person he can imagine.
