Did you start VO as an actorly pivot in pandemic times?

Are you a VO actor who needs practice and critique?

Do you wonder what is missing or what you could do differently when you go out for a VO role?

Theresa Buchheister and Ryan William Downey are excited to get back to teaching in-person and on mic. In this 3 hour workshop, we will do a brief intro into the field (what is the difference between audiobook, cartoon, podcast, video game, commercial?) and then put you through a gauntlet of cold readings in all of these voice over realms.

Each participant will get time on the mic and valuable, personal critique.

Theresa Buchheister is a director, performer, researcher, teacher and script-adapter in the wide world of VoiceOver in New York City. She has directed hundreds of audiobooks, including How Music Works (by David Byrne) and The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Leaving the Sea and many many more. She is the voice director for BoyGirlDogCatMouseCheese on BBC, and previously directed English dubs of Crisis Jung, Funny Little Bugs, Denver, Pokemon, The Winx Club, World of Winx, Robocar Poli, and many other cartoons and video games, as well as ADR for live-action films. Theresa also voices adult characters and villains, narrates niche audiobooks and teaches at HB Studio.
Ryan William Downey is an actor, playwright, and musician who serves as Associate Artistic Director of The Brick Theater and Co-Director of Title:Point, an experimental theater company that has been producing and presenting work in New York City for more than a decade. His most recent play, Sleeping Car Porters, was a New York Times Critic’s Pick and Biter (Every Time I Turn Around), which he co-wrote, was one of Helen Shaw’s 10 Best Plays of 2015. As a voice actor he has been heard on podcasts, audiobooks, in many plays and, most notably, on Pokémon film and television series playing a variety of characters.
