Brick Aux proudly presents JENNIFER MILLS NEWS: 21 Years, over two decades of one woman’s quest to report the true and mind-numbingly ordinary events of her life.
Breaking News: Woman’s Can Opener Breaks; Woman Sees Snake; Woman Hates Haircut. For the last 21 years, writer and artist Jennifer Mills has published the Jennifer Mills News, a weekly newspaper about her own life. For the first time ever, every issue will be displayed at the Brick Aux Gallery in Brooklyn to be shared with the public.
Long before Mailchimp and Substack, the JMN began publishing in 2002 out of a high school computer lab when Mills was 17, and has been delivered weekly ever since. Editor-in-chief Jennifer Mills, 38, makes no effort to glamorize life’s small defeats and victories. Mills breaks news on everything from getting a new crockpot, to the time her chapstick fell out of a window, and the banner headline day she discovered an extra closet in her NYC apartment.
The JMN has not changed in form or focus since its first issue. Every week it is shared with a growing subscriber list who receive it the old fashioned way: as a PDF of a Word doc sent directly from Mills’ email. Come read a few headlines and leave, or strap in and read all 21 years. Either way, this impressive junkyard of journalism will leave you rethinking what newsworthy means to you.
