June 20, 2023
at Brick Aux – 628 Metropolitan Ave

Join us for a staged reading of A Gape, a retelling of the Greek myth Pygmalion, but with a Sapphic twist.

Written by: Olivia Ray
Directed by: Zoe Gray
Manu Trujillo as Artist
Julia Kreisa as Aphrodite
Isabella Nicdao as Statue
Olivia Ray as Other

In this retelling of the Greek myth Pygmalion, an artist struggles to let go of her newest masterpiece and begs Aphrodite to bring her to life. Aphrodite complies, and the statue is born. We address the seemingly “simple” questions: What is a soulmate? How do power dynamics affect a relationship? What is free will versus fate?

cw: knife violence, dubious sexual consent
