Brick Aux presents
Sound to Style: an exploratory voice workshop
by The Music Co-Lab
September 30, 2023
10am-1pm – $45 – $75 sliding scale
at Brick Aux – 628 Metropolitan Ave
Singing is a skill honed through exploration of sound fundamentals. This workshop will journey through these fundamentals, integrating movement, breath, and sounds to illustrate the basic principles that constitute the art of singing. Participants will then use these principles of sound to explore adjustments that allow for efficient and stylistic choices. This workshop is ideal for singers at all stages of their vocal journey – from students, songwriters, and producers to professional performers seeking to hone their skills.
Karina Camile Parker (soprano) & Christina Swanson (mezzo-soprano), co-founders of The Music Co-Lab & Killer Queen Opera Co.
During the workshop we will work on alignment and posture, physical and vocal warm ups, basic vocal anatomy, fundamentals of phonation, and an exploration of resonance that will help participants strengthen their own unique sound. The workshop will culminate in a masterclass style session where participants can work with a live pianist and perform a song for feedback, in a supportive and collaborative environment. There will be two fifteen minute breaks. Light snacks and water will be provided. No one turned away – please contact us if you are unable to pay the workshop fee.
Please reach out to us directly if you need any accommodations (themusiccolabnyc@gmail.com).
Ages 18+. All are welcome!
