Ama The Diver
by Katiana Rangel and Jim Fletcher
May 9 and 10 at 8pm
at Brick Aux – 628 Metropolitan Ave
$25
A young man, of noble status and great heritage on his father’s side, searches out and learns the story of his mother, a seaweed diver of humble origins, who attempted a superhuman feat for his sake, to ensure his rise. Adaptation of the Noh play Ama (over a thousand years old) which is in turn based on a ‘prehistoric’ Japanese play/story whose origin is not precisely known.
Lori Goldston, renowned Seattle musician, cellist, joins up with NYC performers Katiana Rangel and Jim Fletcher for this submersion. They are currently also working together on Blasted, by British playwright Sarah Kane, for production in the near future here at The Brick.
Directed and performed by Jim Fletcher and Katiana Rangel
Original music performed live by Lori Goldston
Ama The Diver was developed as part of Nalanda West artistic residency in Seattle, WA
